CELEBRITY chef Marco Pierre White helped raise £1,000 for charity at his summer party.
The party was held at Marco’s pub, The Pear Tree Inn in Whitley. It was organised in aid of ABF The Soldiers’ Charity.
Assisted by general manager Michelle Dhalaigh, Marco held the event on Saturday 8th June and guests were treated to canapés, cream teas and the signature cocktail pear bellinis. Marco signed books to raise money for this worthy cause and shared a rare moment of sunshine with his guests in the garden.
Special guest, Major Kate Philp, an ambassador for The Soldiers’ Charity and the first female soldier to lose a limb in Afghanistan, gave an empowering speech regarding her journey and imparted some of the many ways The Soldiers’ Charity benefits families today.
Caroline Cary representative from ABF The Soldiers’ Charity said, “Every so often we can enjoy an idyllic day and Saturday, at Marco Pierre White’s pub restaurant, was the perfect setting for a great charity fundraising event.
“He had kindly opened his kitchen and garden to provide delightful canapés and to be on hand to sign copies of his latest book ‘Marco made easy’ with proceeds going to the Charity.
“Major Kate Philp told the story of her injury and rehabilitation, and her latest expedition as she prepares to walk to the South Pole with ‘Walking with the Wounded’ in a team including Prince Harry.
“Marco kindly donated some fantastic raffle prizes and spent time with guests in the garden. It was so wonderful to see people chatting, eating, drinking and enjoying themselves whilst raising money.”
Kate enlisted the help of local MP Duncan Hames to draw the raffle. Prizes included an overnight stay at Marco’s country inn, The Carnarvon Arms, the former coach house to Highclere Castle – better known as Downton Abbey. Lunch or dinner at the Horse and Groom in Charlton, Malmesbury and The Pear Tree. Tickets for the British Military Tournament on 8th and 9th December 2013 at Earls Court completed the prizes on offer.
