Last year’s league winners Chippenham hosted Melksham with a 36 -12 win.
A strong home side demonstrated their abilities right from the start. Gaining possession from a scrum restart Chippenham worked the ball out through the backs exploiting a gap out wide to run in the first try of the half. Melksham were unable to get their game going against the high pace attack from their opponents. At half time three more unanswered trys, one converted, left Melksham 22-0.
Following their half time team talk Melksham came out fired up, and constant pressure on the home try line saw Chippenham give away a penalty try converted by Rob Bailey. Spirits started to rise and momentum maintained resulting in a well worked move with Dave Dyke going in for the try converted by Bailey.
Chippenham regained their attacking composure and responded with two more converted scores to see the game win secured at 36-12. Melksham captain Callum Hurn said, “We were under pressure constantly in the first half but showed our true composure to get back into the game in the second half.”
