Melksham RFC welcomed BOA RFC to their home ground in a closely contested game on Saturday 2nd November.
Both teams played some good rugby with Melksham just edging it 15-14.
The first try for Melksham came within the first five minutes, the backs putting the ball through the hands for winger Simon Ellinger to show his pace and score, the conversion by Rob Bailey.
BOA struck back almost immediately going over for their first converted try. The score level at 7-7 in the first 10 minutes. The first half continued with both sides attacking and defending forcefully, but with Melksham conceding too many penalties to gain any advantage the score remained 7-7 at halftime.
BOA restarted the second half with intent. Good passing and strong ball carrying, produced a reward with another converted try. Melksham fought back producing some aggressive ball carrying runs to get over the gain line, the pressure causing BOA to give away a penalty in their half, duly taken by Rob Bailey for three points.
The momentum found Melksham forwards putting pressure on the visitors in their own 22 metre area with a short pass out to Scott Davis going in for a try to take the score to 15-14. The score remained unchanged until the final whistle.
Following the game Melksham’s captain, Callum Hurn, said he was pleased with the competitive spirit within the team to come back and hold onto a one point lead against a good BOA side.
