A LONG campaign to bring security CCTV cameras to Melksham town centre has finally come to fruition, thanks to a local company who stepped in to help when the project reached a hitch.
With the first stage of the CCTV system due to be installed, the group asked for help following a shortfall when a high-specification computer was required to provide full control of the cameras.
Following an appeal in the last edition of Melksham News, a local company stepped forward to offer assistance.
Colin Goodhind, chair of Melksham Area Community Safety Group and CCTV upgrade project manager explained, “The directors of local IT company, Devision, responded within hours of receiving their MIN and the computer needed to complete the system was built to our specification. Great service and a very generous gesture which will benefit the community here.
“CDS Integrated Systems installed the first stage of the town’s CCTV upgrade last week, so we now have two high-definition cameras in the town centre providing quality images 24 hours a day and access to other cameras to help provide effective coverage.
“Volunteers to monitor the system at specific times have started to come forward and we look forward to providing an effective service for the community, working closely with the Neighbourhood Policing Teams.
“I would like to thank everyone who has helped make this possible including the Melksham Area Board, Melksham Town Council, Paul Weymouth of Melksham Christmas Lights and Alex for his invaluable work on the electrics and data cabling side of things, helping to keep costs down.
“Everything will be done to ensure that development of the system remains proportional to the needs of Melksham and that its operation is in line with appropriate codes of practice etc.
“We would welcome approaches from anyone interested in helping monitor the cameras and/or people with CCTV experience or expertise to join our working group.”
