Following some successful days of clearing and weeding in St Michael’s Churchyard in the past year, Saturday 4th October has been set as the next date to continue the good work.
Already with help from the Church Wardens, Council Staff, Army Cadets, Friends of St Michael’s Church and Melksham Town Team, the group made a huge difference in the grounds of the St Michael’s Churchyard, clearing away dead branches and weeds, and removing moss and ivy off gravestones. The next phase is to plant bulbs in the churchyard and everyone is welcome to join in. On Saturday 20th September local people are invited to join in at St Michael’s Church between 1.00pm and 3.00pm. Some tools will be provided, but bring spades if you have them because crocus bulbs, bluebells and lily of the valley have already been donated for planting, and there will be plenty of digging for everyone! Penny England, one of the volunteers at the last Churchyard Challenge Day said, “It was a heart warming event – it was good seeing so many people, especially young people, giving up their time for the general good of the community and really enjoying themselves too!”
Refreshments for those taking part will be provided by Asda.
