Shakespeare at The Courts 35 years on

Story posted on

HOLTDramatic Society will be performing A Midsummer Night’s Dream at The Courts Garden in the village.

35 years after their first outdoor performance of the Shakespearean comedy, the society is repeating the event on the evenings of the 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th September.

It is believed that Holt Dramatic Society was the first amateur company to stage an outdoor Shakespearean play in the UK.

Directed by Rachel Elsy ‘Dream’ is set in the Edwardian era this time around. Regular followers of the society may recognise familiar faces in the 20+ cast of actors of all ages. John Palmer, who played Demetrius in the 1979 production, will be playing the part of Oberon 35 years later.

Tickets are available from the Holt Superstore, next to the village hall, at £15 (£12 concessions) and online at www.holtdrama. org.uk. The entrance will be through the gate at the Ham Green end of The Courts from 6.00pm onwards. The seating area will be available from 7.00pm on a first-come-first-served basis, and the play will begin at 7.30pm.
