Choral Society rehearsals for Christmas concert

Story posted on

As the summer cools down Melksham Choral Society are warming up their voices as rehearsals start on 10th September at 7.30pm, at the Rachel Fowler Centre for the autumn term.

“Our Christmas concert is Handel’s Messiah, which is to be held on 19th December at The United Church, Melksham and will commence at 7.30pm, and this year it will be held  by candlelight.

“Handel’s Messiah was first performed in 1742, yet in view of its age it still attracts large audiences to listen to the rich sounds of the music and the interesting harmonies of the singers.  It is a work which is exciting and vibrates and Melksham Choral Society enjoy performing it.

“Under the baton of our music director Paul Badley, who is a professional singer,  Melksham Choral Society is looking forward to entertaining the people of Melksham with another of their professional performances of this Oratorio which never fails to thrill and excite both singer and audience.

“If you would like to join the choir  please turn up on Thursday evening, we are a non-audition choir and always welcome new members of all ages and skills.  If you have never sung this work before and are nervous about joining, please do not worry, we are a warm and welcoming choir and will give you lots of support. If you can read music it is an advantage, but if you cannot do not worry as there is always lots of help.  Several professional singers cannot read music Pavarotti being the most notable, so come and do as he did – just enjoy singing.”
