Do you need help? Find out more about Melksham’s “good neighbour” charity scheme

Story posted on

MELKSHAM & District Link is a good neighbour registered charity, which is run entirely  by volunteers from all sections of the community, helping others in need of assistance or transport.

There are 44 Link schemes in Wiltshire all functioning independently and each scheme is managed by a committee of local people.

What does Link do?

Link offers transport to hospitals, doctors’ surgeries, dentists, opticians, collects prescriptions and shops for those who are housebound and/or find it difficult to get around unaided.

How does the Link service work?

The service operates through a co-ordinator via the Link mobile number 07979 129 052.

Our telephone line is open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm and a messaging service is also  available – please leave your name and telephone number with details of your request if possible and a co-ordinator will respond as soon as possible. Please note: A minimum of 48 hours notice is required.

What area does Link cover?

Melksham & District Link covers Melksham and the parishes of Melksham Without namely: Atworth, Beanacre, Bowerhill, Broughton Gifford, Whitley and Lacock.

Who can use the service?

Anyone living within the listed areas and those people served by Melksham surgeries.

Is there a charge for the service?

There is no set fee but we do appreciate a donation to help with the costs of operating the service.  Our drivers give their time voluntarily and are reimbursed a mileage allowance of 42p.

Did you know that if you are in receipt of welfare benefits you may be entitled to help with your travel expenses?   Enquire at hospital reception for guidance.

If you think Link can help you, please ring the coordinator. If you have already found the scheme helpful, please tell others about us.
