Enigma twirl team has finished 2015 on a high after success at the last SITA (Southern Independent Twirling Association) competition of the season.
They took to the floor with all team routines and many solo and duet entries. The troupe also put together a Christmas Pom routine that involved some of the parents and helpers.
Tanya Denning said, “A crazy busy day, but what brilliant fun the troupe had bringing home many awards, and those gaining 1st place being awarded the SITA Championship title for the year.
“Results were as follows: Team results – 1st x4, 2nd x6, 3rd x2, with the Christmas parents’ fun routine coming 2nd!!! Then a further 1st x4, 2nd x3, 3rd x8, 4th x6, 5th x4, 6th x1 in solo and duet events – We even had a 7th, 5th and 4th in the parents/adult basic strut.
“We had a very busy summer with the carnival season, various competitions and supporting the local community at many fetes and fayres.
“We also took part in our last carnival of the season on Monday 16th November at Midsomer Norton. And what an eventful way to end the year it was … everything was against the team, transport failure, costume errors, lack of time, even the weather, but the carnival team didn’t let that dampen their spirits and finished the season with amazing results.
“Enigma has accomplished 2x 3rd, 3x 2nd and 1x 1st position out of the seven judged carnivals that they took part in this year (one only announced first place so are unaware of other places). This is only the third year that Enigma has taken part in carnivals, and to be getting results like this against much larger and experienced teams is commendable.
“Enigma go out to the carnivals for fun, as it is a way of letting off steam from the pressure of the competition year, the troupe choose a theme and just run with it. This year’s theme being ‘Nifty 50’s’. So to come home with the results that they have, has been unexpected, but also a massive confidence boost for the troupe.
“Enigma are currently recruiting new members, and are accepting boys and girls of four years and up. So if you have a budding Billy Elliot or a little Dancing Queen in the making, let them come along and give baton twirling a go.”
The troupe practice at the Manor School in Melksham on a Thursday from 5pm to 9pm. You can always look the team up on Facebook, or contact troupe leader Tanya Denning-Kuijper on 07702 808079.
