LOCAL people joined in with a nationwide ‘Clean for the Queen’ last weekend and waged war on litter in and around Melksham.
Volunteers took part in the organised litter picks over the 4th, 5th and 6th March, as part of the initiative led by the area board.
Miriam Zaccarelli, who led a team of litter pickers in the town centre said, “The Clean for the Queen went really well and we collected probably 30 bags on Sunday morning. We covered as much of the town as we could and it was a fantastic success, as are our regular Tidy Town days. It was lovely to see children getting involved and enjoying themselves, as well.”
The Clean for the Queen campaign ran nationwide in an effort to clear up Britain in time for the Queen’s 90th birthday this year, which will be officially celebrated in June.
Litter picks were co-ordinated throughout the town and villages including Broughton Gifford, Bowerhill, the Canberra Centre, Queensway and the town centre.
