The Shed needs your help

The Shed Melksham continues to grow in numbers with interest coming from people outside the town.

Chris Pickett who runs the club said, “The fact that numbers are growing is a great advertisement for The Shed and its need in the community.

“In order to accommodate our members The Shed, more than ever, is in need of a larger premises, as you may know we are in a porter cabin. Forest Community Centre want us to stay with them and that is what we also want, however in order to do so we need to appeal to the community for their help. Apart from the donation of a large shed, practical help of builders and the like  will be needed when we have foundation to construct. Fundraising opportunities are very much on the cards.

“So when a lady in Forest offered to hold a coffee morning in her home, we were delighted. The event took place on Thursday, 19th May and it produced some £80 towards the new shed. More importantly it provided an opportunity for the lady in question, to meet more of her neighbours and to feel much more involved in her community – having recently arrived from Litchfield. The Shed is therefore more than a place for people to engage in hand craft activities and community projects, it has a very valuable knock on effect in the community at large.

“On 18th May, The Shed had an open day as part of Dementia Awareness Week. A couple of chaps popped in but unfortunately the weather was not promising and that may have deterred others coming. However, a future open day is planned when the Forest Community Centre celebrate it’s birthday, so please come and see what The Shed can offer to you or your family members.

“The normal open times are Monday and Wednesday mornings, coffee always available and a friendly welcome guaranteed.

“Thanks you to all those who visited and organised the coffee morning, especially the lady who provided The Shed with a supply of tea, coffee, biscuits and sweets – a most gratefully received gift.”
