MELKSHAM is lacing up to start its very own Parkrun soon and organisers are on the lookout for volunteers to help the popular events run smoothly.
Local people were brimming with enthusiasm when Melksham man Colin Goodhind suggested starting a Parkrun in May this year, and now it looks as though the town will soon have its own weekly event based around King George V park.
The free 5km timed runs are organised in parks all around the country on Saturday mornings.
Colin said, “The response to Parkrun has been great and it will happen! We’re still working on finalising the start-up funding and then we can really get the ball rolling.
“It looks as if the King George V Playing Field is likely to be the focal point of Melksham Parkrun. This can always change in the future but experienced parkrunners reckon it’s a good venue, so we’re now working on the detail.
“We need to have ten volunteers to organise the event, four of whom need to be prepared to act as race directors.
“Parkrun being what it is, I’m sure we’ll attract willing volunteers as it grows and maintaining a core of ten is very unlikely to be a problem, but please everybody spread the word!”
