WORLD Championship success was clinched for Wiltshire Youth Canoe Club’s Hannah Brown, 26, who achieved a bronze medal in the Canoe Sprint Senior World Championships in Racice, Czech Republic.
Hannah, who trains at the Adventure Centre in Melksham, was partnered by Banbury’s Angela Hannah, and the pair claimed bronze in the K2 200m event, after beating stiff competition in the heats and semi-finals to win a place in the A Final.
This time last year Hannah sustained a serious shoulder injury during racing in Pau, France, which required reconstructive surgery and months of rehabilitation. Yet, she has had one of her most successful canoe sprint seasons this year.
The K2 partnership with Angela Hannah was newlyformed earlier on the season and they were selected to represent Great Britain at the Canoe Sprint World Cups, followed by the European Championships.
At the Europeans they narrowly missed the podium by 0.1 of a second, so podium success at the World Championships was especially sweet.
After their success Brown said “It’s all still settling in after such a crazy year of rehab and change to be able to put a performance down like ours in the final on Sunday was fantastic! With a new crew combination of Angela and me this year we’ve learnt a lot, having some good racing and some frustrating ones, so to put a good race down for our last one of the 2017 international season is amazing. Getting to stand on that podium will only fuel us onto the winter training we have in the coming months”.
Hannah is also the reigning World Championship in Wild Water Canoe Sprint Racing and will be defending her title in Pau later on this month.
