ONE Voice Community Choir will present a programme of popular songs on Saturday 25th November at Melksham United Church. The performance will begin at 7pm, price £5, at the door.
The choir leader, local musician Lee Ingram, is part Welsh and hails from a musical family. He studied piano as a child and later, singing with private tutors. His jazz outfit, The Lee Ingram Quintet, plays regularly for concerts and private events and he is a vocalist with The DS Big Band.
Lee formed One Voice Community Choir in November 2013 in North Bradley, Wiltshire, as an ‘over-60s’ group. The initial idea was that everyone should have the opportunity to sing together, in an informal environment, regardless of experience or musical knowledge.
Gradually, with the age restriction lifted and an expanding list of members, the new choir grew in confidence and ability and began singing for the public. A year later another choir was born and One Voice now also has branches in Rode, Frome and Devizes. The group here in Melksham started in January 2016 and has performed several times; most recently at Bowerhill, with an evening dedicated to Swedish pop sensation ABBA.
If you have an interest in singing, why not join? There are no auditions, no need to read music and a choice of five weekly meetings. It is fun, friendly and feel-good, with music from the 60s/70s, show songs and poplar contemporary bands. Call Lee on 01373 825058 or 07766 244321 and visit the website at: www.onevoicechoir.co.uk.
