DOROTHY House clothing charity shop in Church Street, Melksham, is on the look out for more volunteers.
The popular charity shop needs to find over 30 volunteers to help run the shop and maximise the amount of money made for Dorothy House Hospice.
New manager, Jasmine Dyer, who has been with the shop for nearly a month said, “Just over a year ago the shop had over 50 volunteers, but that has steadily declined and we now have 14. We desperately need more volunteers to help. At the moment we have to rely on paid staff from the charity across the area to come and help keep the shop open.
“Melksham is incredibly supportive of the shop and we are never short of donations and people visiting the shop to browse and buy things. I feel that we have the potential to make much more money for the charity, we just need more volunteers to achieve this.
“We are looking for all levels of skill and also welcome people with particular interests who can take on a department as their own. Our biggest seller, ladies’ fashion, currently has no one looking after it, so we’d welcome anyone with a keen interest to oversee that area of the shop. There are also opportunities in men’s fashion, books & media, toys or bric-a-brac, working on the tills, or helping in general as an all-rounder.”
Local woman Barbara Rossiter, who has been a volunteer for the shop for over a year said, “Volunteering here has changed my life. I am a widow and I live on my own, but helping here gives me an opportunity to meet more people. You meet such lovely people. I think that this shop offers a wonderful service to the community, whilst at the same time supporting a fantastic organisation.”
Volunteers are asked to commit to at least one shift a week (four hours). Full training is given. For more information or to pick up an application form, pop into the shop at 7-9 Church Street.
