A TWO minutes’ silence will take place at the war memorial, Canon Square, at 11.00am on Saturday 11th November, Armistice Day, to commemorate those who have lost their lives in conflict.

The following day, on Sunday 12th November, the annual Service of Remembrance will be held at St Michael and All Angels Church, Canon Square at 3.00pm. The general public are requested to be seated in the church by 2.45pm.

The parade will leave King Street car park at approximately 2.40pm. All ex-service men and women and serving members of HM Forces are welcome to take part. Please report to the parade commander at 2.30pm at King Street car park.

The wreath-laying ceremony will take place in Canon Square after the church service, with the return parade taking a salute in the Market Place before proceeding back to King Street car park. Refreshments will be served in the Assembly Hall afterwards. Please note, road closures will be in operation for limited periods during these times.

Poppies are still available from shops, pubs and clubs until Saturday 11th November, with volunteers collecting and selling lapel badges, crosses and Poppy Appeal items in Waitrose, Sainsbury’s and Asda stores during this period.

Poppy Appeal organiser, Trevor Paterson said, “We hope to see a good turn out from all people and organisations in order to raise money for the Poppy Appeal and remember those who have fallen.”
