From May 2018, every business, small and large, will have to comply with the new data protection regulations.
To help plan for the changes, Melksham Chamber (formerly known as Melksham Chamber of Commerce and Industry) will be hosting a talk on Tuesday 28th November at The Kings Arms Hotel, at 7pm, with guest speaker Kieran Thomas, of Priority IT Ltd.
The Chamber says they have called the meeting due to the serious implications that this change in legislation may have for businesses.
Rebecca Burchell, financial planner for Chilvester Financial explains, “This will require a review on the way they gather, use and store personal information on their clients and non-compliance could carry heavy repercussions.
“This European legislation is being introduced to ensure that your personal data is held only for legitimate reasons, and is kept secure, safe and up to date. It intends to prevent individuals being marketed to without permission and requires businesses to keep a clear audit trail of where personal information has come from and when permission to contact the individual was obtained.
“The regulations will affect any business which holds information on its existing and potential customers, the way a business can market their products and services and the length of time a business can hold legitimately gathered information.”
After the Chamber talk at The Kings Arms, there will be an opportunity to ask questions and discuss the real implications this change will have on your businesses.
Entry is £5 per person on the door, please confirm attendance on the Melksham Chamber Forum Facebook page or by emailing Becky@Chilvester .co.uk. www.melksham chamber.co.uk
