Dorothy House Christmas tree collection in Melksham

MELKSHAM has been chosen for this year’s Dorothy House Christmas tree collection scheme, which the charity initiated last year. The scheme allows local people from a chosen postcode to donate online for volunteers to come and collect their Christmas tree after twelfth night. This year the scheme is coming to Melksham on Saturday 6th January 2018.

Last year, people left their tree outside their houses after registering it online and the volunteers came and picked them up ready to be chipped at various sites. In their first year they managed to raise £6,395.90 so the success has encouraged them to do it again this Christmas.

Dorothy House now are asking for the residents of Melksham to lend a hand with various activities to help with the smooth running of the event this year. They need help finding vans, flat beds and transits which work well, but all vans are useful, volunteers and promoting the event as widely and cheaply as possible, and also getting people to sign up.

If someone would like to sign up to this community fundraising scheme and get their discarded Christmas tree collected from their house they need to visit the JustHelping website at www.charityxmastreecollection.com, check that their postcode is covered by the scheme (SN12), register their tree, consider making a donation and follow the online instructions about where to leave their tree ready for collection.

For Melksham, Lackham College has agreed to chip the trees, encouraging their students to learn how to use the chipper! The Art House Cafe in the Market place has signed up to be the meeting point for volunteers for the briefing.

Emily Knight, events fundraiser at Dorothy House said, “My task now is to recruit vans and volunteers in the Melksham area, help me spread the word and even get involved in the day if you fancy it! It is great fun and is a wonderful way of helping Dorothy House in a different way.”
