2017 was a busy, yet exciting year at Forest and Sandridge CE Primary School.
We had lots of events in school involving all of the children and our families too. In the spring term we held a science family learning morning during which almost 100 parents came into school to learn alongside their children in science. The family learning morning was part of British Science week and was organised by our science leader Mrs Cathy Hearn. The children all took part in hands-on investigations throughout the morning, these included investigating the effects of different liquids on our teeth enamel, making gloop and slime and even making rockets!
Our fabulous PTA worked tirelessly last year and not only organised fun events for all of our children and families to be involved with, but have also raised a lot of money for the school. In the summer term we had new play equipment installed using the PTA monies raised and the children absolutely love playing on the equipment every day. Thank you PTA!
We have raised money and given to charities throughout the year and had lots of fun doing so; some of our charity events have included filling and wrapping shoeboxes as part of Operation Christmas Child, dressing in spots for Children in Need and, at the end of the summer term, many of the children left their shoes in school to donate to children in the Philippines who have to wear shoes to school, but many of whom can’t afford to buy the shoes.
This year we have lots of plans to make 2018 even better than 2017; we are working hard and hoping to achieve the Artsmark award and the Green Flag Eco-schools award. We have identified reading as an area we want to improve and will be putting lots of exciting plans in place to improve our standards in reading . . . Jess, our reading dog, will continue listening to our children read throughout the year!
