LAST year River Mead School, Melksham, part of the River Mead Academy Trust, said goodbye to the Head of School, Mrs Nicki Henderson, who continues to be involved with the Mead Academy Trust in a different capacity.
The school started the 2017-18 academic year celebrating the arrival of a New Head of School, Mrs Karen Austin; which is an opportunity she is embracing with enthusiasm.
The school has also recently merged the YMCA on-site nursery into their provision, enabling River Mead School to offer education and experiences for children aged 2-11 years. The exceptional bright refurbished and well resources Early Years Unit is an exciting opportunity for local families to have provision all in one place.
The school is continuing its commitment to give the children a wide variety of learning opportunities; throughout last year children participated in offsite trips including residential visits to Kilve Court and Oxenwood, as well as numerous day visits including Roche Court as well as visitors to school. River Mead also successfully gained their bronze award for Healthy Schools and are already working towards the Silver award.
The new academic year has already included visiting a poet in Trowbridge, a visit from Melksham Town Band, an author visiting the school and offsite visits to Westonbirt Arboretum to extend learning. The school has lots of trips planned for the New Year too, including the “Young Voices” concert in Birmingham.
