THE Melksham branch of the Royal Air Forces Association has celebrated its 75th anniversary.

Melksham RAFA was formed on the 9th February 1943 and is one of only a couple of branches in the UK to reach the milestone of 75 years.

Secretary for Melksham RAFA, Tony Horton said, “On the 3rd of February Melksham celebrated its 75th Anniversary with a Mess-style dinner at Leigh Park Hotel with 65 members and guests.

“The evening started with our Standard being presented to Air Marshal Sir Baz North, to have its new platinum tassels accepted.

“Also we were presented with a 75th Anniversary certificate. Honoured guests were Air Marshal Sir Baz North. Air Commodore Andrew Neal, Air Vice-Marshal Pat O’Reilly and 95 year old Des Hawkins WWII Lancaster Navigator.”

The group is planning a number of charity events throughout the year to commemorate the anniversary and the centenary of the RAF. The next event will be a charity night on Thursday 8th March, hosted by local restaurants The Sultan and Cinnamon. Watch out for posters around the town with more details.
