LOCAL group, Melksham Seniors, has appointed Jim Law as their new chairman.
Jim steps into the role to replace departing chair Brian Warwick, who has moved into the role of president for the Seniors.
“Hello to all seniors,” says Jim. “I would like to take this opportunity to thank Brian and his good lady Beryl, (behind every man I believe is the saying), who have both worked very hard to get the Seniors up and running and made it the success that it is today – which is not easy in this day and age with the cuts from central government to local councils; everyone is getting by on a shoe string.
“I have been asked to take the Chair and carry on the good work that Brian has done. I intend to take this opportunity and do my best with the help of the other members of the committee, they being cllr Terri Welch, cllr Martin Pain and John and Rosemary Pritchard, and also for a good while, Brian and Beryl.
“Our Monday films continue to be a good success, and over at the Riverside on Thursday mornings we are doing many different things with the help of your input and suggestions. Coach trips are also very popular, again these were asked for by you seniors.
“Also, we are putting together the Christmas party for all Seniors members, but non-members are welcome. This will take place on Monday 17th December, so please put this in your diaries.
“The committee and I are also looking at other suggestions that were given to Brian a while ago; we will give each one consideration, and if feasible, we will give them a try.
“The Seniors will continue work on making Melksham the first ‘age-friendly’ town, and we are working together with local surgeries, local councils, and the police to try to make this happen.”
