The seventh annual Lock & Key BG Games will be held this Saturday, 7th July.
Originally organised to coincide with the 2012 London Olympic Games, the first BG Games were a sort of spoof Olympics featuring all sorts of events ranging from boules to mackerel juggling.
Organisers of the event say, “This year, the 7th Games take place in six different village locations, this Saturday, July 7th, under the generous sponsorship of local estate agents Lock & Key.
“During the day there are over 200 medals to be won, with most events having separate classes for men, women and children. A new challenge this year is Hobby-Horse Eventing. Last year the oldest medal winner was 84 and the youngest just 3!
“The day starts on the Common at 10am with a host of events including Precision Frisbee, Paper Plate Discus, Welly Whanging, Scooter Dash, Canine Agility and Penalty Shootout. These continue until 12.30, while at the nearby Bowls Club there will be Precision Bowling at 10.30am.
“At 12.30 there is one of the highlights of the day with tug-of-war competitions for men’s, women’s and children’s teams. To enter your team for this, please contact Dougie on 01225 782309.
“The action then moves to The Bell on the Common for a range of events from a Coconut Shy, Beer-mat Flipping and Darts to Boules and Golf-Chipping. Beer and a Barbecue will also be on-site.
“At 2pm, we move to the other end of the village at St. Mary’s School for Children’s Sports and then finally to the Village Hall at 4pm for Skittles and New Age Kurling, followed by the medals ceremony at 6.30pm
“Do come along and spend this fun-day with us, at no cost if you just want to see people make fools of themselves. If you wish to compete, the entry fee for most events is £1 for adults and 20p for children.”
