RESIDENTS at Wharf Court are celebrating another two awards from Melksham in Bloom, for the second year running, for their communal garden areas, which are completely managed by residents.
Melksham in Bloom awarded Wharf Court with Best Decorated Site and Best Hanging Basket/ Trough/Planters (both for Residential Housing for over 60s).
Melksham News was invited to visit the gardens by resident Margaret ‘Anne’ Jefferies, who initiated their first entry last year. She said, “It’s not Wharf Court’s gardens, it’s the residents’ gardens. People work tremendously hard to keep them looking good all year round. Some people are unable to tend to their own gardens so we all work together at our gardening club meetings to ensure those who wish to take part, do.
“Residents with cars kindly go out and pick up the plants and bring them back so we can plant them. It keeps a lot of the residents busy, keeps their minds active and helps psychologically.
“There are some with illnesses such as Parkinson’s that still regularly attend to their gardens, keeping them active. This is the second year we have won and look forward to entering again next year.
“The site looks lovely all year round and it’s great that I can get round it all in my wheelchair.”
