Melksham hosted Trowbridge in their local derby.
The visitors were first to score with a converted try after just 10 minutes, working the ball out wide to score in the corner.
Both teams competed hard for the next score, trading possession and territory, with the Trowbridge fly half putting in a neat little grubber kick for their second converted score of the day.
Melksham started their tally with Luke Cador, coming on off the bench, gathering a ball and backing his pace and power to get the home team on the scoreboard. Scrum-half Callum Hurn making the conversion.
After a period of competition, the momentum seemed to shift and a quick tap and go from a penalty saw Callum Hurn cutting through the defenders, making the final pass to winger Matt Van Den Boogaard, with distance to cover, racing into the corner bringing the score to 12-14 at half time.
On the restart of the second-half, the home team took the lead with accurate passing finding centre Callum Gillard for his first of the season. Advantage was exchanged between the two teams until Melksham gained territorial position in the visitors’ half. Callum Hurn made a break from the ruck, getting between two defenders and offloading to the charging Brad Wilkins going through with power to score his first of the season and the bonus point try. Hurn added the extras to bring the score to 24 -12 and so it remained until the end of the game.
