We were pleased to welcome a new member and a visitor to our meeting on October 15th.
One member showed us several designs of Dorset buttons that she had made during a day course run by the Federation. She was very enthusiastic about the course and has since made more examples at home.
We were given more information about the special events and activities that will take place in 2019 to celebrate our Federation’s Centenary.
We are preparing for our Autumn Fair which takes place on Saturday November 3rd from 10am till 12 noon at the Atworth Village Hall. There will be stalls selling home produce and plants, books, games and jigsaws, home made crafts, baby knitwear, amongst other things and a raffle. The Youth Club and Guides are also involved. Tea, coffee and cake will also be available.
Our speaker for the evening was Louise Hull, a local osteopath, who gave an excellent and very informative talk about our very complicated skeleton and some of the problems that sometimes occur. She illustrated her talk with various models of vertebrae in the neck and back and a skull. It was fascinating to learn how many everyday activities can be affected by poor posture or strain. Several members took the opportunity to speak to her afterwards!
The competition this month was for three autumn leaves and was won by Lesley Adam.
Our next meeting is on November 19th at 7.30pm at Atworth Village Hall when the speaker will be telling us about The History of Penguin Books. Do come along and join our friendly group.
