Melksham had an away fixture with Chippenham II over the weekend.
The home team were first on the scoreboard with a converted try, a catch and drive from a line out kicked deep into the corner from a Melksham penalty. Shortly after, Melksham opened their own account through forwards’ pressure on the line, Harry Clarke to drive in and score.
The visitors struck again quickly, with the ball worked out wide to winger Matt Van Den Boogaard, passing back inside for Luke Cador to cross the line. This period of control in the game resulted in yet another try; the backs combining with Rory Mulgrew to score and Full Back Connor Randall adding the extras.
The second half restart once again saw the rampant Luke Cador running in from the 22-metre line to score the bonus point try, Randall adding the extras. The home team were down but not out and rallied with two quick scores to climb back into the game. The response came swiftly; replacement fly half Callum Hurn breaking the gain line, putting the ball into Cador’s hands who raced away from the following pack to score. Minutes later Cador was to strike again for his fourth of the game, Hurn adding the extras, building a comfortable lead for the visitors. The home team scrambled another try in the last minutes to close the game 36 points to 22.
