A LOCAL athlete has been selected for the British Canoeing World Class Performance Sprint Squad – and now has her sights set on competing at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Hannah Brown, who is a member of the Wiltshire Youth Canoe Club based in Melksham and whose family live in the town, is now hard at work training at the British Canoeing high performance centre in Nottingham.
Speaking to the Melksham News, Hannah said, “It is an honour to be named as a UK lottery-funded athlete in the British canoeing performance squad for the 2019 season.
“It’s great to be able to represent Wiltshire Youth canoe club at this level. 2018 was a great year of progress for me in racing K4, with two 7th places at the World Cups.
“We have established ourselves in this discipline which puts us in an exciting place leading into the 2019 season, which is our Olympic qualification year.
“We are currently in the middle of our winter training and about to head out on our first warm weather camp before Christmas, looking to accumulate the kilometres in the boat to then build on through the 2019 season.”
Wiltshire Youth Canoe Club said, “We are very proud that Hannah Brown from Wiltshire Youth Canoe Club has been selected for the World Class Performance Sprint Squad. Huge well done to Hannah and the coaches!”
