Sat. 9th March. Dorset and Wilts 1 North Melksham 57 Pewsey Vale 12
Melksham crushed visitors Pewsey Vale in a 57-12 defeat at Oak Fields.
The game, played in blustery wind conditions, was evenly matched in the opening phases. Melksham were first on the scoreboard from the lineout catch and drive touchdown from flanker Ashley Law. Alistair Smith adding the extras. Pewsey responded within minutes, going into the corner after finding space out wide. Melksham ramped up their territorial control, working into the away 22 found scrum-half Callum Hurn from the back of a ruck hitting the blindside to score. Capitalising on their momentum now, Melksham struck again through Phil Stone, running directly through defenders to score, Smith adding the extras to bring them 19-5 up at half time.
The second half started with the visitors getting their second try in the game. The response from Melksham crushed the visitors, with three tries in succession from winger Luke Cador showing his pace and agility to get around the defenders in an outstanding display. Smith converting to increase the tally. Control of the game was now fully in Melksham’s hands and Rory Mulgrew from a kick ahead pounced to score.
Cador, still not out of gas, got his fourth of the game and assisted in the final points of the day as second row Ryan Brown received the pass and forced his way through tackling defenders to touchdown under the posts, Smith hitting the conversion, for a rout of the visitors in the second half, final score 57-12.
