MELKSHAM Brownie, Millie Penny, has been raising money for Guide Dogs, with the help of the Bowerhill Barkers, in order to gain her charities interest badge.
Millie, who is seven, has recently become a Brownie with 3rd Melksham Brownies.
Millie’s mum, Zoe said, “When recently shopping at Asda, Millie spotted Caroline, a key volunteer with Bowerhill Barkers, and her guide dog Mike. She had a chat with Caroline and asked if she and Mike would be able to visit her Brownie group, which Caroline kindly agreed to.
“Caroline and her friend Ann came along, with Mike, and gave a talk to the 3rd Melksham Brownies and at the same time, Millie held a cake sale, with the money raised going to the Bowerhill Barkers.
“Just before Christmas two years ago, Caroline was registered blind. It took a lot of support from many people and organisations, for Caroline to come to terms with having to live with this life-changing event. Guide Dogs Southampton is one of the charities that has helped enable her to move forward. It is an essential charity which provides guide dogs and support to people with sight difficulties in Wiltshire.
“Bowerhill Barkers have set themselves an initial target of £55,000 because, with all the training etc, this is how much it costs to provide a person with limited sight a guide dog.
“Millie is going to continue fund raising during April and will then present what she has raised to Bowerhill Barkers at the end of the month.”
