Melksham’s ‘secret crocheter’, Nicola Coleman, opened the doors to her brand new Crochet Cabin on Sunday 7th July, with a successful open day.
More than 70 people attended, including mayor, cllr Jon Hubbard.
Nicola has been a keen crocheter for a few years now, having originally learned with her mother and grandmother. The hobby gradually became a passion and she left her role as deputy head at Seend Primary School to pursue her dream of sharing her love of crochet with others. From her cabin, she holds workshops for crocheters of all abilities, as well as making and selling gifts and kits for the Melksham Makers’ Market.
The Crochet Cabin will also be used for other craft workshops; local dressmaker Becky Lane Designs will be running some sewing and dressmaking workshops here over the next few months. As well as workshops, the Crochet Cabin can also host children’s craft parties.
“Crochet is something I believe anyone can do,” Nicola explained. “It’s a brilliant skill, as well as being great for mental health. Sharing the cabin with everyone has been a real privilege and I’ve been overwhelmed by the support of local people.’
