Do you have an adapted disability car/mpv vehicle? Would you be willing to pick up a disabled neighbour and taken them to an activity ‘club’ ?
Melksham Seniors say, “The reason that we ask this question is, in the light of the problems that affect many older disabled people who have found themselves ‘isolated’ and consequently lonely.
“The Melksham Seniors have two clubs, (a Thursday Club at the Riverside and a Monday Club at the Forest Community Centre) – as do other groups in the town, (Sixty Plus) all of whom are keen to welcome new members. Some of these new members are disabled people who have no transport of their own, but would dearly love to spend an hour or so in the company of others.
“Like your own loved one, travelling to different venues is a great mental booster, and to do so in comfort and security, is a very valuable plus. By sharing your own vehicle once or twice a month could make an incredible difference to someone’s life, who is currently housebound.
“Melksham Senior Forum want to help these small numbers of vulnerable and isolated people get a quality of life that others in the older community take for granted. Enjoy a morning or afternoon with people who can share jokes or just chatter with. Can you help by giving your name and telephone number to the Secretary (01225)707643.
Or if you prefer, Melksham’s Older People’s Champion and supporter of the Seniors says, “I want to help this small number of people get more out of their lives. Will you help by giving your name and telephone number to (01225) 707643?”
