MELKSHAMIndependent News readers have helped to raise over £2,600 for two local charities via our family messages column.

The money, totalling £2,681.50, has been collected during 2019 from donations made by readers of Melksham News and our sister papers, White Horse News in Westbury and Frome Times and from payment for notices from funeral directors. Readers are invited to make a charity donation when they run a message in our Family Messages column while funeral directors are charged £15 for funeral notices, with all the money going to charity.

£760 has been raised for the Rotary Club of Melksham thanks to cash donations made in our Market Place office. And £1,921.50 has been raised for Dorothy House Hospice Care via online donations made through the JustGiving page  of each paper and from £15 payments from funeral directors for each funeral notice printed in the papers.

Accepting the cheque on behalf of the Rotary Club of Melksham, Martin Elson said, “We are absolutely delighted to receive this cheque from MelkshamNews, it goes towards helping local charities in Melksham – thank you to all the readers who donated by putting a family message in the paper. Melksham News and its readers have always been very helpful to us, and we are very grateful.”

Representing Dorothy House Hospice Care, community fundraiser Verity Clark said, “Thank you so much to everyone that reads the paper and has donated – the support is incredible. This money will go a long way to help patients and families that are looked after by Dorothy House Hospice Care. ”

Editor Ian Drew said, “Thank you to all our readers who have contributed to this fantastic amount. It is a pleasure to support both of these local charities who do such important work in the community.”
