High Street micropub celebrates first anniversary.
The Hiding Place, is celebrating its first year of bringing local craft beer to the High Street – and also, in a unexpected twist, bringing the community together.
Owned by local couple Malcolm Shipp and Karen Davis, the micropub, located on the High Street, has become a popular meeting point for the community, where new life-long friendships have been formed over a pint (or two) of modern craft beer.
To mark the anniversary, Karen and Malcolm are hosting a special party on Saturday 7th March, from 12pm to 10.30pm – to say thank you to the community for its support.
Speaking to Melksham News, the couple said, “It’s gone beyond our expectations. We didn’t know how it would go – but it has been exceptional. It’s been really welcomed by the whole town – and it’s become very much community focussed, which we didn’t really expect. There’s a lovely buzz, and so many different people have met here and become friends.
“The support that we have had – even in ‘Dry January’ when traditionally pubs are really quiet, we’ve found it really busy – which is testament to how much people love the place and want to come in.
“We’ve seen the most amazing friendships grow here in the Hiding Place over the year. A bunch of locals, who didn’t know each other a year ago, have all gone out together to a gig in Frome recently.
“And we also have a group of customers who became friends here, who recently commissioned a solid oak Hiding Place sign for the pub to say ‘thanks for being here’. Which was an amazing and touching gesture – the sign will hopefully take pride of place outside the shop in time for the anniversary.
“It’s been a joy to run The Hiding Place – it’s been hard work – but it has been a pleasure to work here, because the people are so lovely and enthusiastic about what we do.”
The Hiding Place centres around modern craft beer and features brews from Melksham brewery Stealth Brew Co, plus specialist guest beers from around the UK. Non-beer drinkers are also catered for with a range of gins, wines, ciders and soft drinks.
Opening hours are Tuesday to Thursday 5pm to 9pm; Friday 2pm to 9.30pm; Saturday 12pm to 9.30pm; and Sunday 2pm to 8pm.
