A case for CCTV in Melksham?

Story posted on

Town councillors have decided to involve the public in determining the need for CCTV in Melksham.

They say, “It’s really important that this is established one way or the other before a decision is made regarding whether and how to take a scheme forward.

“Members of the public are cordially invited to meet and advise members of the town council’s newly-established CCTV working group at an open meeting on Wednesday 18th March, 7pm, at Melksham Town Hall

“In proposing the establishment of this working group, the town mayor, councillor Jon Hubbard, was keen that the record reflected a note of thanks to Mr Colin Goodhind for his extensive prior work and advice on this subject.”

In view of the latest recommendations from the government re. gatherings etc. this meeting should not be regarded as anywhere near an accurate indicator of interest in CCTV. The Town Council must find other ways of effectively and meaningfully engaging with the community over this important subject. The seriousness of anti-social behaviour in parts of the King George V Playing field (aka the Park) alone warrants serious consideration as it involves a minority affecting the majority who just want to enjoy themselves.
