The Manor School hosted a Bake Off competition, styled after the popular Channel Four show, with not a soggy bottom in sight.
Children and their families at the Melksham school were challenged by staff to bake edible creations based on the theme summer. Due to continued social distancing restrictions, entries were judged on their appearance, link to the theme, and the flavours used, rather than taste.
Grace Pepper, lower KS2 lead teacher at The Manor Primary School said, “We had 50 fabulous entries from the children ranging from cakes to brownies, cupcakes to scones, not forgetting some savoury bakes!
“There were many positive comments from parents about how much their children have enjoyed baking, decorating (and eating!) their baking!”
After some deliberation, a winner was chosen from each year group, with Norah, D’Arcey, Emily, Tristan, Nevaeh, Lucas and Emma taking the top spots. Their creations included a summer fruits sponge, some gummy bear cupcakes, and a beach landscape created with icing.
The competition was one of several schemes undertaken by the school to keep the school community more closely connected during this period in which most children have not been able to attend school for a long period.
