MELKSHAM Town Council’s tree planting campaign is to return this winter – bigger than before!
The campaign offers residents free tree seedlings (whips) for planting in their private garden – and for this year’s campaign it is hoped that the scheme will be extended to include residents in the Melksham Without area.
The decision to expand the scheme comes after confusion during the previous campaign in January this year when residents outside the boundary of the town council area were told that they were not eligible for a free tree.
At a Melksham Town Council meeting last month, economic development manager, David McKnight, explained that some residents from the Melksham Without Parish Council area that were “keen to get involved” did not know which council area they lived in.
David McKnight said that Melksham Without Parish Council’s clerk, Teresa Strange, has said that she is “keen to be involved”, but parish councillors will need to formally agree to their involvement at an upcoming meeting.
At the meeting, town councillors voted in favour of going ahead with this year’s campaign and allocating a maximum budget of £1,000 as the town council’s contribution to the scheme.
Details of the upcoming scheme will be shared in the Melksham News when they become available.
