SHAW and Whitley Community Hub is hosting ‘village consultation days’ next week about their plans to save the village shop.
The events will be an opportunity for villagers to meet the steering group, hear about their plans so far, give feedback, and ask questions.
The group says, “We’re keen to gather as much feedback as possible from villagers to help us to shape our plans to meet the wishes of the village.
“There will be lots of information about:Who and what the Shaw and Whitley Community Hub is; What a community shop is and how it will work; Examples of other successful community shops in villages like ours; What kinds of things a community shop in Shaw and Whitley might stock; The services the Shaw and Whitley Community Hub might offer; How we intend to fund our plans; Our options for the shop’s location.”
The ‘village consultation days’ will be held on: Friday 6th November, 1pm to 6pm, at the Reading Rooms, Middle Lane, Whitley; and Saturday 7th November, 1pm to 6pm, at Shaw Village Hall, The Beeches, Shaw. The consultation is a drop-in event, but numbers will be restricted, to follow Covid-19 government guidelines.
The group say, “Please follow the now familiar Covid guidelines and stay away if you have any symptoms or have been in contact with anyone with a positive Covid test.
“And please be patient if the hall is at capacity when you drop in and are asked to wait a little while to come inside.
“We’ll be following protocols to make the events as safe as possible, while still allowing as many people as possible to come and find out about this exciting and important village development.”
Shaw and Whitley Community Hub was set up in response to the post-lockdown news that The Toast Office, Top Lane, would not be reopening – the group hopes to either buy the former shop when it goes on the market, or set up an alternative community shop elsewhere in the villages.
