MELKSHAM’S parkrun events are preparing to make their post-lockdown return.
King George V junior parkrun is planning to return on Sunday 11th April, whilst Melksham parkrun is planning for a return on Saturday 5th June. Both events were cancelled until further notice in March last year in response to the first national lockdown.
The junior event, which involves running around a 2km course on Sunday mornings, is also looking for volunteers to join is core team to support the event.
On behalf of King George V junior parkrun, Craig Murray said, “We can confirm that if the R rate continues on a downward trend we will be looking to restart junior parkrun on Sunday 11th April.
“Unfortunately, parkrun UK have stated that for the time being only kids aged 4-10 yrs old can take part but this will change back to 14yr olds when parkrun starts back in June.
“We are looking for more volunteers to join the core team as some members of the original core team have sadly had to leave since lockdown.
“Being a volunteer brings its own rewards. Making new friends, learning new skills amongst other things. In order to be part of the team, there will some training involved and disclosure checks but its pretty straight forward.
“Also, if there are any 11-14 yr olds that are missing their junior parkrun fix, we would love to have them with us as volunteers.”

About its possible return in June, Melksham parkrun – which is a 5k run in King George V playing field – said, “Please be aware though, that if there is a rise in Covid cases, we may have to postpone. We’ll have to see how things pan out, so cross fingers that everyone is sensible.”
