Join Wiltshire Air Ambulance for first-ever ‘Steps to Remember’ event

Story posted on

WILTSHIRE Air Ambulance is inviting locals to take part in a special Steps To Remember family walk on Sunday 2nd October.

The event begins and ends at the charity’s airbase in Semington and offers people the chance to remember their loved ones in a special way.

Starting at 4.30pm, it involves a serene four-mile walk along the picturesque Kennet and Avon Canal path, past the Semington Aqueduct, through Giles’ Wood on the outskirts of Bowerhill and Seend Cleeve, before returning to the airbase.

There will be a small reception back at the base and a moment of reflection as dusk sets in, all situated around the helicopter sculpture in the charity garden.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance’s business development manager, Katy Burke, says, “As a charity it is important that we help our supporters and give them the tools to remember loved ones and keep memories flying. Each year our crews attend in excess of 1,000 missions and unfortunately despite their best efforts we are unable to save everyone.

“This new Steps To Remember event is a great opportunity for friends, family and colleagues to come together and cherish their loved ones, while at the same time raising vital funds to keep our air ambulance flying.

“All bereaved members of our community are welcome, whether we attended to their loved one or not, maybe they loved watching our specialist crew flying over. We urge everyone to come and make this a family affair, bring the kids, the grandkids, even the dog!”

The four-mile sponsored walk represents the £4 million it costs each year to keep the service operational.

Entry to the event costs just £15 for adults, £5 for children or £30 for a family of up to four. Head to www.wiltshireairambulance.co.uk/steps to sign up.
