MELKSHAM Without Parish Council plan to explore the possibility of installing a warning sign or a gate with plants, to ask drivers to slow down when they enter Beanacre.
The road from Lacock to Beanacre is a 60mph road, which becomes a 30mph zone. Currently, there is no warning sign in place, other than to highlight the 30mph speed, asking drivers to slow down when they enter the village.
The parish council have said that drivers speed through Beanacre and they have received reports that it is ‘uncomfortable’ for the houses dealing with the traffic, along with pedestrians walking by fast cars.
At a meeting of Melksham Without Parish Council, held at the end of November, it was reported that a sign cannot be installed within 100 metres of a 30mph sign, as the drivers are ‘unlikely’ to see a sign quickly enough.
Clerk to the parish council, Teresa Strange said, “There is currently no warning sign to slow the traffic down. At the moment, we are trying to look into options. We’ll either look to install a sign that warns drivers of the 30mph speed and to slow down, or we will look to install a gate or something, with plants to highlight it’s a slower zone.”
