PLANS are moving forward with finding an operator to move into the Cricketers Café in the Pavilion of the King George V Park.
Earlier this year, the council asked for expressions of interest to be made from any operator who would like to run the café in the park, which is due to open on Saturday 1st April.
At the town council’s asset management and amenities meeting on Monday 6th February, the council’s head of operations, Hugh Davies, updated the committee that 13 expressions of interest had been received from operators wanting to move into the café.
Now in the next stages, councillors have formed a panel that have agreed to meet to shortlist the expressions of interest.
Out of this meeting, three operators will be invited back to give a presentation of their business idea for running the café, on Tuesday 28th February.
Speaking about the need to ensure the right operator is chosen, Melksham’s mayor cllr Simon Crundell said, “In the panel we should have councillors that have experience in running their own business. There are a number of councillors who do. It would be best to do this to ensure an operator is chosen who will last, rather than one who may only be short-term.”
Cllr Jon Hubbard said, “I am delighted this is moving forward and delighted that we have had this level of interest. I am looking forward to this going to the next stages.”
