MELKSHAM gathered together outside the Town Hall on Monday 14th May to celebrate 100 years of the RAF.
During the celebration, the Melksham branch of the Royal Air Force Association received a ‘token’ gift from the Calne branch. The token contained a pull-up banner, representing the three founding components of the RAF and travelled across the country from branch to branch to educate people on the great work that the Royal Air Forces Association does in support of all members of the RAF family, currently serving, or having served, from the newest recruit to the older veteran.
Melksham received the token in spectacular fashion with a procession of flags and a vintage vehicle outside of the Town Hall, led by the Calne branch, who previously received the token.
A ceremony, where Roger Jones chairman of the Melksham branch received the token, took place before it then made its way around the town, including stops at Sainsbury’s and Asda for all to see.
Mayor cllr Adrienne Westbrook, who attended the ceremony said, “We are delighted to have received the token from the Calne RAFA branch and excited to have had the opportunity to share the history with the people of Melksham. The token has now been passed on to the Trowbridge branch for them to do the same.”
