It may have been cold and damp outside, but the atmosphere in Melksham Assembly Hall on Christmas Day was warm and welcoming.
This was the twelfth time that Core Church has organised a free Christmas dinner for anybody who wanted to come and over 150 meals were served up across the two sittings. “That was probably the smoothest Christmas Day we’ve ever had,” said Gavin Owen from Core Church, “we had a great team of volunteers who had chosen to share their Christmas Day with our guests and they all deserve a big thank you.
“We also want to thank everyone who helped us set up on Christmas Eve; Melksham Town Council for the use of the Assembly Hall; I. D. Newman and Son butchers for supplying the turkey, which was as succulent as ever; Duncan Private Hire for help with transport; the staff at Melksham Assembly Hall; Waitrose Melksham for another generous donation from their green token collection; and all the people, groups and businesses who donated money and gifts.
“What this great event shows, year after year, is that there is tremendous community spirit in Melksham. The town may be small, but the people most certainly are not!”
