Melksham councillor calls for help to save your local pub

MELKSHAM Without North Councillor Terry Chivers has joined the Camra campaign for a fair deal for local pubs.

The Camra (Campaign for Real Ale) initiative aims to save local pubs in the area by encouraging people to use local pubs as opposed to those run by larger companies.

Now, the Wiltshire councillor is urging residents in the area to get behind the campaign and save local pubs. He said, “The local pub is the hub of the local community along with the local shop and post office. If we lose any of these, the community loses its heart. It’s a local meeting place for many local residents.

“The large pub companies are forcing the closure of pubs on a daily basis as most tied landlords pay around 70% more for beer then it is on the open market. This is coupled with sky high rents. Many landlords are earning as little as £10,000 per year.

“I have this week provided posters and beer mats to all the local pubs in my ward and I’m encouraging all their customers and residents to back the campaign.”
