STUCK for a New Year’s Resolution? Look no further.
Wiltshire Wildlife Trust is challenging Melksham households to take part in an eight week ‘diet’, starting in February. But this is no ordinary diet. The pounds you’ll shed won’t help you drop a dress size but they will cut your waste size and actually save you pounds in your pocket as well.
Emma Croft, community waste minimisation officer at Wiltshire Wildlife Trust said, “Let’s face it, there’s a lot you can do with some extra cash straight after Christmas, and savings of up to £100 a month are possible by taking the Waste Watchers challenge. Just by tweaking a few of your consumer and lifestyle habits, by thinking about what you’re buying and how often you’re buying it, really can save you money as well as the Earth’s precious resources.
“Last year, Waste Watchers in Wiltshire slimmed their bins by, on average, 50%, just by making some simple changes such as starting to compost or switching from disposable nappies to washable ones. I’m looking for households in Melksham to take the challenge and discover for themselves how fun and satisfying it can be.”
The Trust’s Waste Watchers Challenge kicks off in February and involves five short and fun fortnightly get-togethers to set targets, plan actions and celebrate successes – there will even be prizes! Emma will be available throughout the challenge to provide practical assistance, advice and support to help you to achieve the waste size you’ve always dreamed of!
