Melksham mum’s fundraising attempt

A MOTHER from Melksham whose child has been affected by asthma has organised a children’s fun day and nearly new sale to raise money for the charity Asthma UK.

Melanie Metcalfe has organised the event because her three-year-old daughter Evie is a sufferer of asthma which sometimes affects what she is able to do.

The event is to take place at Bromham Social Centre on Saturday 15th February between 10.00am-2.00pm with a variety of activities going on throughout. There will be face painting and a balloon maker, colouring and crafts, photo booth, tombola, games for children and the opportunity to buy good quality used children’s and baby items, as well as cakes and refreshments.  There will also be a raffle which has been supported by Melksham businesses such as Gompels and Komix who have donated gift vouchers.

The event is free. However, there is a suggested donation of £1 entry for adults and 50p per child.

Melanie said, “The reason I have decided to organise an event for Asthma UK is because our nearly three year old daughter was diagnosed with the illness at the age of 20 months, although she has suffered since she was three months old.

“They are a fantastic charity and offer 24 hour a day support and guidance for sufferers of asthma and is particularly useful as it can be hard to diagnose asthma in children, so their advice means a lot. The charity has helped us on a few occasions and they are great.

“Evie’s illness is very unpredictable, she can be ok for weeks and months and then suddenly out of the blue she can have an asthma attack triggered by illness, dust, pollen or even just general running around like any child should be able to do.

“It really is going to be a fantastic day where I am hoping to raise lots of money and awareness for a great charity and cause.”
