Town Crier Championships return to Melksham

THE Melksham Town Crier Championship 2014 will be held in the  Market Place on  31st May, in conjunction with the Melksham Lions 40th Anniversary Gala.

Melksham Town Crier Peter Dauncey said, “This is the third Melksham Town Crier Championship and as well as welcoming criers from all over England and Wales we also have the honour of hosting the champion of Belgium and his wife from Ghent, Willy and Anita Van de Putte. Also taking part we will have the current champion of Europe and  past World and Commonwealth champions.

“Each crier will be telling us about their home town and why it is a good place to live, work and play; some with great humour. With 20 criers and 17 escorts in wonderful costumes the Melksham Championship will be one of the best supported and prestigious this year.”
