Forest Community Centre family fun day

FOREST Community Centre is celebrating its first anniversary with a free family fun day.

Last year Vic Oakman and his team realised a dream as they saw the community centre open after 20 years of campaigning for a centre to be built and, following a successful first year, a family fun day will now take place on Saturday 9th August to mark the first anniversary.

The day starts at 9.00am with a car boot sale and continues throughout the day with attractions such as live music featuring Stevie J, a pets’ corner with sheep, alpacas and pony rides, appearances from Peppa Pig and Bob the Builder, craft stalls, raffle, bouncy castle, barbecue and licensed bar. Following the family fun day the entertainment will continue into the evening with free entertainment from Pete Lamb’s Heart Beats.

Vic Oakman from Forest Community Centre said, “It has been a fantastic year and this is a great way to celebrate the success of the community centre. It has gone far better than we could ever have imagined and we are now in the process of looking to extend the centre so we can have even more going on. For many years I wanted a community centre as I felt we didn’t have anything in the area. There was nothing to do, other then the pub and that is not suitable if you’re a family and many people just can’t afford that, so it’s great to have somewhere that is for everyone and is well used.

“The family fun day is a great way to celebrate the success and it is great to be able to make it a free event, so hopefully as many people as possible will make it. There is loads going on which caters for different age groups.”

The family fun day is expected to last until about 4pm. To book a car boot or stall call 01225 705378 or 07786 823199.
