Lest we forget – Melksham remembers

MELKSHAM will be marking Remembrance Sunday with a parade and service on Sunday 9th of November.

The parade will form in King Street car park at 2.30pm and will leave shortly after at 2.40pm. The parade will march through the Market Place before heading on to St Michael’s Church. A service will be given at St Michael’s from 3pm. The general public are asked to be seated in the church by 2.45pm. Wreaths will then be laid on the cenotaph in Canon Square at approximately 4.10pm.

After the wreath laying, refreshments will be provided at Melksham Assembly Hall. All ex-service men, women and serving members of HM Forces are welcome to take part in the parade. Those who are taking part,  please report to the parade master in King Street car park before 2.30pm.

Anyone attending the church on Sunday 9th November is also welcome to bring a pebble or a stone, which they can write something on to add to the Path of Peace in commemorating the 100 years since World War One started.

An area to the right hand side of the path to the church has been set aside for pebbles or stones to be deposited.  Pebbles/stones will continue to be collected until 2018, when they will be used to create a path in the church yard.

Members of the Royal British Legion will also pay their tributes at 11am at the cenotaph on Armistice Day,  Tuesday 11th of November.
